I may sound ovious but you really do need to make a list of the thing that are most important to you for any potential property. Also remmeber that one persons list of priorities may be very different from the next, ie think schools.

One of the most overlooked things is distance. People often fall in love with an apartment as soon as they see it and forget that it may take an hour or more to get to their workplace. You need to add up facts like these and stay practical at all times when chosing any place to live. Another thing that has become increasingly important for people is an apartments energy rating. This scale allows you to see at a glance how effective any property is at retaining heat. This will depend of course on the insulation and general build quality of the property. I think we will find that this factor becomes one of the most important there is in the coming years especially as energy prices go higher and higher.
